The Legion Challenge
To take part in this event you either need to be over 18 or supervised by a responsible adult.
About the Event
Join the legion for an epic personal challenge choose the V or X challenge to earn the coveted 2nd Legion "Augusta" award. The 2nd Legion was personally led by the future Roman Emperor Titus Flavius Vespasianus during the Roman Invasion of Britain in AD 42
We have two options for your challenge, the V(5) or X(10). You set your own epic challenge.
This just has to tie into 5 or 10 respectively.
For example for the 5 challenge you could do a 5k, a 5mile, 5 runs in a week. Or 5 runs in 5 days. 5 runs period! (Possibly good motivation if you’re getting into running. Maybe you’re injured so 5 walks? Or how about 5, 5 mile or km runs?
Maybe make up 5 miles, 50 miles, 500 miles or 25 (5 squared) over a period of time.
This one isn’t limited to running. It’s just a challenge you can set for yourself that we hope will be motivating in these weird times.
The 10 works in the same, just substitute a 10 for the 5 in every example above!
These allow you to set your own challenge, just tell us what your personal challenge is when you sign up. However, if something happens and you no longer think it’s a good idea, contact us and we can redefine it. After all we don’t want you getting to 8 out of 10 runs, getting injured and then making it worse with 2 more runs when you could safely finish with a bike ride or walk instead.
We are offering this as our planned race has been postponed and we don’t know when it might be back, so we want you to have the chance to run virtually and earn the medal. This is clearly open to those that had already entered but also now to anyone who hadn’t!
We'll try and be as flexible as we can as currently it’s strange times we’re living in. Hopefully things will stabilise but the lock down may well get stricter. If that happens we’ll update this!
So To Qualify you just need to do the distance/activity/activities that you specified when signing up to the challenge.
So what do you need to provide?
State that you are over 18 or were supervised by a responsible adult
Address to post to
Proof of activity or activities completed. Proof can be screen shots of strava, garmin, running watches, cycling computers, xtrainer dash screens or similar. If you want to be competitive on pace please make sure that’s visible. As we want this to be a relatively fair thing we reserve the right to use our discretion on whether an activity qualifies for the pace.
Send us proof via our gmail - email@example.com.
If purchasing as more than one entry everything works the same except one person, ideally the one who purchased the entries needs to supply one address to send all the medals to. And supply names and proof of activities completed for each entrant. We’ll assume each person is to include in results unless told otherwise.
Date wise, we won’t be strict. The event is open until sold out. To qualify in the prize categories though activities must be submitted before the end of July 2020.
Location? Anywhere! These medals do have a Roman theme so anything that ties it into anything Roman or a hill fort would be cool but really not necessary.
As we write this you’re currently seemingly allowed to go almost anywhere in England, Wales, Scotland and North Ireland I do not know so please check your region (I say region as apparently we could have regional lock downs soon). We reserve the right to disqualify anyone who breaks pandemic guidance while doing any challenges. Remember if you do find yourself unexpectedly self isolating you could run in the garden if you have one or use an exercise machine even if that means a skipping rope or the stairs! Remember if sharing publicly your run to make sure you have a privacy zone on if using strava.
Age? We are happy for kids to do our virtual races other than just the mini ones - you can break down our bigger race distance challenges into smaller chunks if you need to help your little one or yourself complete it. However, here are our guidelines, though please use your own common sense and parental judgment. We are not responsible or accountable for your children when participating, it is up to the responsible parent or guardian to look after and ensure the safety of the child/ children. Click here for our full guidelines
Posting We’ll start posting out the medals once we receive them and proof of running the distance. Obviously it’s strange times at the moment and how quickly any of the process goes is unknown. The medals might take longer than average for us to receive them and get them out.
If you were Entered in an event you just need to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or pm us on facebook and let us know what you had and entered and that you want to do the virtual race (if you haven’t already).
If you want to Enter places are available at the shop theflyingfoxstore.co.uk. Simply purchase the virtual race there and once we’ve received your proof of finishing and the medals are available we’ll post them out. You can send proof to email@example.com or pm on facebook.
Will you be doing other virtual races? Yes there are several already open and hopefully we have a four mile and 100 mile challenges coming
